In the Vatican, the most unexpected and best find I came across was Ignazio Dante’s Gallery of Maps. For a cartophile, a hundred-and-twenty-metres-long sixteenth-century gallery of MAPS, with frescos and ceilings and cabinets… It almost overwhelmed my excitement about the Laocoon group, which is saying something.
